Tigres club president, Alejandro Rodriguez, has been speaking about the prospect of a Tigres vs Monterrey clash in the Liguilla.
We are currently top of the table and look almost certain to enter the post-season as one of the top couple of seeds. Rayados lie ninth, one point behind Chivas who currently occupy the final Liguilla place.
Rodriguez admitted it was a tie that the city would love to see. “We know what it means to our fans,” he said. “The city is very passionate about it, the place comes to life”.
He refused to be drawn further, “We don’t tell you [the press] too much and you’re already very creative. Imagine if we told you more!” he joked.
Will Rayados Qualify?
There is a strong chance that Monterrey won’t even make it to the playoffs. Their win over Santos in midweek was their first victory since mid-August and they’ve only won three games all season. With matches against America, Toluca, and ourselves still to come, they face a tough end to the season.
We played Monterrey in the quarter-finals of the Clausura, losing 4-3 on aggregate. This season’s regular season game is on 29th October at El Volcan.
