Andre-Pierre Gignac has been left out of the France squad that will play a World Cup qualifier against Sweden and a friendly against the Ivory Coast later this month.
The news comes as no real surprise — Gignac has not reached his own high standards in the second half of this season and has not scored a goal since the 2-1 win over Puebla in Jornada 9.
In many ways, it’s good news for the club. Even when he has been in the squad, he hasn’t been given many minutes in recent games. His omission means he won’t have to travel to the other side of the world and will instead have two weeks of rest and recovery ahead of the most important part of the season.
