Javier Aquino officially ruled out as El Tri prepares for USA showdown

Javier Aquino has been officially replaced by Jurgen Damm in the Mexico squad.

Aquino injured his groin in the warm-up before our 1-0 win against Tijuana on Friday night. Damian took his place in the starting XI.

The winger underwent a scan on Monday afternoon. The results showed the muscular damage was too severe for him to be considered.

Damm joined Hugo Ayala and Jesus Duenas on a flight from Monterrey to Mexico City on Sunday after as the Tigres trio joined up with the rest of the Mexico squad.

Mexico plays the United States on Friday night in Colombus then Panama in the Estadio Rommel Fernández Gutiérrez the following Tuesday. They are the first two games of the hex ahead of the 2018 World Cup.

The six-team round-robin concludes in October next year. The top three sides will qualify automatically, with the fourth-place side going into an intercontinental playoff.
