French striker Andre-Pierre Gignac has not scored a goal in his last 314 minutes – a run that stretches back to his penalty against Puebla during our 2-1 win in mid-September.
He failed to score against Chivas, Cruz Azul, or Leon – missing a penalty in the latter of the three.
Some of the media have started to criticize the striker, but Tuca is unconcerned.
“He’s a strong player who at the moment hasn’t been able to score,” said the boss. “But I am not worried, I just hope he doesn’t let it get to him.”
“The forwards have more responsibility than scoring goals. I am confident the goals will soon start flowing for him again.”
The Wait Continues
Despite his drought, the 30-year-old has still managed to find the net five times in the Apertura.
There is no Liga MX action this weekend due to the international break, so Gignac’s next chance to break his streak will come at El Volcan against Necaxa on Saturday 15th October.
