Joffre Guerron specifically asked to play in last night’s game at El Volcan.
The Ecuadorian has struggled for minutes this season – yesterday was the first time he’s played since Cruz Azul’s 1-1 draw with Atlas in late-August.
But he was determined to take to the field in Monterrey, and Boy was more than happy to give him a chance.
The Cruz Azul boss revealed the news during his post-match press conference, and Guerron confirmed it when leaving the dressing room.
“I wanted to play on my return,” said Guerron. “I wanted to be on the field and I’m grateful for the minutes.”
A Fantastic Reception
The 31-year-old, who scored 18 goals in a year and a half at Tigres, received a hero’s welcome when his name was read out over the PA system before kickoff.
He has nothing but praise for our club and the fans.
“I thank the fans for making me feel good from the day I arrived,” he added.
“I felt supported by everyone and grateful to all of them.”
