Local mayor makes bizarre promise to Gignac ahead of Clasico

How are most footballers honored by their team?

Perhaps they get a statue outside the ground, a retired squad number, or even a section of the stadium named after them?

In the case of Gignac and Andy Delort, they’ve been promised an altogether more unusual honor if they help Tigres beat Monterrey in the Clasico Regio on Saturday night.

The local mayor of San Nicolas, Victor Fuentes, has promised that’ll he’ll build an Arc de Triomphe in the city if the two French stars can get their names on the scoresheet.

“If they score three goals, we will build the Arc de Triomphe in San Nicolas,” said Fuentes. “We’ll ask the fans for donations and build it in a park or other public area.”

Gignac will be fit to start after passing a fitness test this week. He is likely to take Delort’s place in the starting XI, even though the summer signing scored his first league goal of the season in last weekend’s win over Pumas.
