It was a good week for UANL fans. The men’s team got back on track with a 2-0 win over Pumas, and Gignac ended his scoring drought. The American Football team of the university won 63-14 in their preseason showdown with UAT. But the biggest win of all was Tigres Femenil’s 9-0 beatdown of León. A touch over 5,000 fans were present to see the slaughter, which was Tigres’ third straight win.
Often we hear a pundit say, “He (or she) always plays well right out of the gate, and is a threat from the opening whistle, no warming up required.” Well, Carolina Jaramillo knows how to start a match. She opened the scoring in the 4th minute, doubled it in the 6th, and tripled it in the 9th. Not only was the game wrapped up before it even really started, Jaramillo scored a hat-trick in just 5 minutes, a Liga MX Femenil record that is likely to stand for a long time. She would add a 4th in the second half, putting her with a stunning seven goals through just four games.
Blanca Solís also contributed a hat-trick, bringing her total up to five goals in just three games so far. Nancy Antonio and substitute Katty Martinez (a Nuevo León native!) also contributed one goal each.
Shockingly, despite winning their last two matches by a combined score of 15-0 and having yet to concede a goal this season, Tigres are actually third in the standings. The 0-0 draw during Jornada 1 leaves them two points back of Pachuca and América, who both are 4 for 4 on victories so far. Tigres won’t be able to get a crack at either of those two until the playoffs, but it looks like they won’t have much trouble qualifying as one of the top teams in their group.
