Tigres’ Ladies team played their home opener this weekend in this inaugural Liga MX Femenil season, and it was a day to remember. The game was at the Estadio Universitario, and was played immediately following the conclusion of the men’s match against Queretaro. As such, many fans stuck around for the action, and Tigres’ 8,322 fans were by far the highest of the season so far. This is a fantastic idea; as long as games are played according to this schedule, our crowds will be unmatched.
What did those fans get in return? A great game and a victory for the home side, who defeated Chivas 2-0, perhaps avenging the men’s team ever so slightly. It didn’t take long for the party to start, as Tigres pounced on a lazy pass in the back and scooped it up, leading to a simple tap-in for Blanca Solís. 10 minutes later they doubled their lead, again slicing through the defense with precision passes leading up to a fairly simple (though well placed) finish for Carolina Jaramillo. Carolina is one of the oldest players on the team at just 21 years of age, and has shown she leads by example: She’s now scored 4 goals in her 5 matches with the team so far.
Tigres are now in 2nd (of 8) in Grupo 2, behind only Rayados. Next week they travel to face Santos Laguna, who have played in a couple high scoring games so far this season, emerging victorious in one and losers in the other.
