The mayor of San Nicolas, Victor Fuentes, has said we can expect to see the final plans for our home ground “very soon”.
It’s still unknown whether the club will elect to build a new stadium or renovate El Volcan.
Since the stadium rumors started a couple of years ago, several prototypes for a new ground have been released, while back in January, sources close to the team hinted 15,000 seats would be added to Estadio Universitario instead.
“We are in the confirming the final details of the plan,” said Fuentes. “Very soon we are going to give everyone some good news.”
“I cannot give more details at this stage because the Rector will get angry,” he joked.
With the World Cup coming to Mexico in 2026, competition between clubs for one of the ten games will be intense. The club directors will surely be hoping that their investment might lure organizers to choose the Tigres’ home over Monterrey’s new Estadio BBVA.
