Tigres is hoping to become a global brand with an ambitious plan to start affiliate teams in some of the leading leagues around the world.
It is thought the immediate goal is to launch a team in France; the club has become well-known in the country recently thanks to the signings of star names such as Andre-Pierre Gignac and Andy Delort and youth prospects like Christophe Libotte Anis and Antoine Seyer.
“We would like to have a Tigres in many different countries,” said Beatriz Ramos, the club’s Chief Financial Officer.
It’s assumed the board wants to capitalize on our recent on-pitch success. We’ve won two league titles and a Copa MX in the last five years, as well as getting to the Copa Libertadores final in 2015, and the Apertura final in 2014.
The only Mexican side to try a similar venture so far is Chivas. Their owners operated the ill-fated Chivas USA outfit in MLS, but the team collapsed in 2014.
