Jorge Torres Nilo has been speaking to the press ahead of this weekend’s game against Cruz Azul.
He wasted no time in taking a thinly-veiled dig at the Mexico City outfit over their second-half horror show against America two weeks ago – a game in which they led 3-0 with 35 minutes remaining before eventually losing 4-3.
“They’re a team that suffers,” he said. “We all know about their history – it recent years they keep having setbacks.”
Los Cementeros haven’t won the league title since 1997. They came close in 2013 but were denied by a late goal from America goalkeeper Moses Munoz.
They currently sit down in 12th place with eleven points, three points behind Chivas in the final Liguilla spot. Despite their mediocre form and propensity for the hilarious, Torres Nilo is not taking anything for granted.
“We respect the opponent, they have very good players and a very good coach,” he added.
“Their setbacks do not give us extra confidence”.
Kick-off in Monterrey is at 7pm Central Time.
