Walter Gaitan has said Andre-Pierre Gignac is on par with Lucas Lobos in the list of Tigres’ greatest players in history.
Lobos formed part of “Los Cuatro Fantasticos”, a devastatingly fluid attacking unit that comprised of himself, Damian, Danilinho, and Hector Mancilla. He cemented his status as a club icon after being the driving force behind our Apertura 2011 title – the first championship we’d won in 29 years.
Could Gignac be Even Better?
But Gignac is well on the way to matching those dizzy heights.
He’s already won one championship, played in the Copa Libertadores final and the CCL final, and could yet become one of a small group of players who’ve won two or more league titles in a yellow shirt.
“[Gignac] is a phenomenon, a great player, great footballer,” said Gaitan (Mediotiempo).
“Andre is the fans’ idol, they love him. I have great admiration for him, he’s like Lucas Lobos.”
Gaitan will enjoy a memorial game at El Volcan tomorrow night when a Tigres legends play Rayados legends.
