Gignac plays as France batter Bulgaria in World Cup qualifier

Andre-Pierre Gignac played the final 20 minutes in Paris today as France ran out comfortable 4-1 winners over Bulgaria in a World Cup qualifier.

The 30-year-old replaced Atlético Madrid’s Kevin Gameiro in the 72nd minute.

Bulgaria took a surprise lead through a Mihail Aleksandrov penalty inside ten minutes, but Gameiro managed to pull France level midway through the first half.

Dimitri Payet made it 2-0 moments later, and thereafter France never looked in danger. Antoine Griezmann added the third before half-time and Gameiro got his second of the night on the hour mark.

Tough Battles Ahead

The result puts Deschamps’ men second in Group A with four points from their opening two games. Next up is a tough trip to face the Dutch in Amsterdam on Monday.

Only the top side in each group will qualify for the 2018 Russia World Cup, with the eight best runners-up entering a playoff phase.
