Monterrey boss Antonio Mohamed could be set to name a surprise team selection in the upcoming Clasico Regio.
In Wednesday’s training session, he picked Jorge Benítez alongside Avilés Hurtado and Jonathan Urretaviscaya in the 11-vs-11 practice game.
Benítez, who joined the club from Cruz Azul last summer, has only started four games all year. He is yet to be named in the starting XI in the Clausura and hasn’t seen any first team action in the league since coming on as a late sub in Rayados’ 3-1 home defeat to Puebla in Jornada 10.
Elsewhere, Turco picked a back four of Stefan Medina, Jesus Molina, Nicolás Sanchez, and Leonel Vangioni. Hugo González played in goal, and the midfield three consisted of Carlos Sánchez, Celso Ortiz, and Alfonso Arturo González.
Depending on Saturday’s result, Tigres and Monterrey could end up facing each other just three days later in the Liguilla quarter-final. The Clasico would need to end in a draw, and America would need to beat Santos by one goal.
