Leon defeat means Tigres failed to beat 15-year-old record

We were beaten 3-2 by Leon at the weekend to end our 11-game unbeaten streak. After going a goal up through Lucas Zelarayan, we handed our opponents three soft goals that we never recovered from.

Gignac missed a penalty on the stroke of half-time, and we couldn’t get ourselves on the scoresheet for the second time until Aldo Rocha gave us a helping hand with an own goal in injury time.

Of course, in the context of the whole season, it wasn’t an important loss. We are still going to qualify for the Liguilla and could still beat Tijuana to top spot in the regular season.

Missed Record

But the defeat means we missed out on eclipsing Chivas’ unbeaten streak from 2001. Back then, Los Rojiblancos went 14 games unbeaten in the Invierno before eventually losing.

We also went close to the record in the 2013 Clausura when we went 13 games unbeaten before losing 2-1 to Pumas in Mexico City.

There’s always next season…
