The world was stunned by the air disaster in Cuba on Friday. A Boeing 737 crashed into a field shortly after takeoff from Havana, killing 110 of the 113 passengers onboard.
But, in the aftermath of the crash, it was revealed there was a surprising connection between the disaster and Tigres.
In short, the plane that went down was exactly the same plane that the Tigres squad chartered to fly to Brazil for the Copa Libertadores semi-final against Internacional in 2015. The plane was owned by Mexican firm Aerolineas Damojh and rented to Cubana Air.

Of course, air disasters involving football clubs are still fresh in people’s minds after the Chapecoense tragedy in November 2016. Most of the squad perished after the plane that was carrying them to the Copa Sudamericana final came down during its final approach to Medellín.
