Tigres U19s beat Premier League side Arsenal 1-0 in the final of the Dallas Cup on Sunday.
Despite dispatching local rivals Rayados 4-1 in the semi-final and drawing 2-2 with Manchester United in the group stages, Tigres went into the final as underdogs.
Arsenal had beaten Manchester United 3-2 to book their place in the final.
Jesus Garza was Tigres’ hero. His match-winning 25th-minute strike was his third goal in three matches.
Arsenal struggled to create opportunities throughout the game. After Tigres took a 1-0 lead into half-time, there only looked like there would be one winner.
In the second period, Tigres dominated possession and restricted Arsenal’s lightning attack to few meaningful openings.
Arsenal had its most dangerous spell in the final ten minutes, but the Tigres backline held firm.
It was Tigres’ third Dallas Cup championship after previous wins in 2003 and 2011.
