Tigres have had a few weeks off thanks to the international break, but they are back on duty for Jornada 13 of Liga MX play this Saturday night, when they will host the floundering León. The game is set for 7PM local time.
It felt like a sour month for Tigres following our surprise exit from the CCL at the hands of Toronto, and a boring 0-0 draw with Chivas before the break, but Tigres were on quite the roll before that. Prior to the Chivas game, we won four straight league matches, and the team will be looking to close out March on a high note.
León, as noted earlier, have been struggling lately. They’ve won just one of their last five league matches, and were knocked out of the Copa MX by second-tier Zacatepec. Landon Donovan finally scored for the club in a friendly against the San Jose Earthquakes last week, but don’t expect him to jump into the XI and revolutionize things for La Fiera.
The players to watch are what you’ve come to expect from this team. Gignac is riding a hot streak, with four goals this month, and Jurgen Damm has been a constant threat in the last few matches. If he can start sending in more accurate crosses it would provide a whole new layer of depth to the Tigres offense.
As we enter the home stretch of the regular season, it’s important to begin building momentum for a playoff run. This León match provides Tigres the opportunity to do just that, and I expect them to capitalize on the chance. Tigres 2-0.
